Family:
Astoria was born to Hyperion and Corine Greengrass on October 16th, 1981. The Greengrass family, a prominent pureblood family going back many generations, is one of the sacred twenty-eight. As such, like most of the sacred families, they have continued the practice of keeping their family pure. Unlike many of the other sacred families however, the Greengrass family has managed to stay relatively neutral in the wars over the centuries, claiming neither light nor dark.

The neutrality of the family has become steadily more difficult over the years, and especially during the previous war. It also complicates continuing the family line, as neutral families of pureblood status are few and far between. Somehow the family has survived the multiple wars though, most likely due to the fact that they seem to have some innate ability of avoiding confrontation. Each member is especially good at being diplomatic in most situations, and their general nature allows them to remain calm and collected in most cases.

Due to their passive and diplomatic nature though, the Greengrass family has done well for itself by way of staying secure in life. They own several businesses, but their main stake is in restaurants. The family has several well-known and highly thought of restaurants in not only Britain, but in the United States, India, and a few other countries as well. They have stayed well connected in their world and amongst their kind, and are always welcomed and respected amongst others.

Personal:
Astoria has always been a bit more of the free spirit in her family, though she's never felt unloved for it. She was a more adventurous child, wandering through the family home, looking for secrets and hidden passageways like those she read of in her books. When she was 8, this led to her getting locked in the storage room in the cellar for a few hours before anyone heard her crying and found her. Due to that experience, she panics in small spaces and in the dark and always sleeps with a nightlight.

She also developed a talent for art as a child, thus she enjoys traditional drawing and sketching. Though she and her older sister get along quite well, the two are quite different. While Astoria sees her sister as the golden child and respects her for it, Astoria has never been able to curb her enthusiasm for being different. This became especially apparent upon her entrance to Hogwarts, where she was sorted into Slytherin like her sister, but was more a non-conformist at heart in comparison to the rest. While her older sister encouraged her to remain out of issues and not be directly involved in anything, Astoria stubbornly did the opposite on most occasions, not out of sheer stubbornness, but out of her own sense of right and wrong.

In her fourth year, things changed rather drastically, and Astoria followed her sisters' advice to try and remain neutral and not get directly involved. But Astoria couldn't ignore the things that were happening around them like her sister, and felt bad for Skyler after word leaked about what Pansy did. Despite that, she did her best to remain a silent supporter for the older witch. That changed when her sister and the rest of the older Slytherins graduated, and her and Sky became rather good friends. Sky always encouraged her in her differences, rather than conforming, and showed her the fun in having friends, no matter what house they were in. Astoria grew fond of the older witch, and often joined her in things, whether it be fights (where Astoria shined with her creativity in charms), pranks, or random adventures. During her last year at Hogwarts, Astoria did her best to keep that tradition alive with others of her house, and looked forward to joining her sister and friends the following year at Merlin's.
